4a Brewer’s Lane
On the west side of the lane. Eighteenth century, perhaps originally a single house along with numbers 2 and 6. Painted brick. The complete building is three storeys; three windows wide. First floor windows have segmental arched heads, second floor windows square headed. Flush framed sash windows. Each of the three bays has a Victorian shop front. Brick band and parapet at eaves level. Fire plaque to No 2. Now part of a single commercial property (Courlander jewellery shop – currently (2021) advertised to let) entered from 56 George Street. The white-painted façade can be glimpsed in this photograph:
The lane is an attractive link between George Street and The Green in a busy town centre location.
