George Frederick Eydmann c.1805-1876

Born: c.1805

Died: 27 or 29 October 1876 while living at 12 Lawn Terrace, Turnham Green. His will and probate records give the conflicting death date. His will left effects under £300 to his widow Laura Jennett Eydmann. On death of Laura in 1887 she left a personal estate of £400 to her sons and executors William Eydmann of Mill Hill Grove, Acton Auctioneer and Edwin Eydmann, builder of High Street Acton.

Burial: Chiswick Old Cemetery, London Borough of Hounslow.

1841 Census: show him living at Turnham Green, Chiswick with Laura, George, Willian, Edwin and Emily. The household also contained Alfred Prater, born 1821. The premises was two doors from the George IV pub and the same site known later as 10 Camden Terrace and 12 Lawn Terrace.

1851 Census has the address as 10 Camden Terrace, Turnham Green This became 12 Lawn Terrace later.

1861 Census has,him at 12 Lawn Terrace, High Road, Chiswick with William (a married hairdresser), Edwin (an unmarried carpenter), Emily (unmarried) Mary Ann and Henry. The household also contained an Ana Reeves born Aldgate, Middlesex 1788 as an assistant.

1871 Census: Still in residence at 12 Lawn Terrace.

The pub Prince of Wales was at 7 Lawn Terrace, High Road in 1899 and pub George IV was at 10 Lawn Terrace in 1901. 12 Lawn Terrace was immediately to the right of the photograph.

Licensed by at least 1771 as Lord Boston’s Arms but called the Boston Arms in 1790. It was acquired by Fuller, Smith & Turner in 1826, probably the year the name was changed to the George IV. It was rebuilt in 1931/2. It was one of the places where tickets for stage coaches could be purchased and in 1838 a George Cloud was running an omnibus service to the City from the pub. In 2002 a storeroom was converted into a function room and is now the headliners comedy club with live comedy shows at weekends and other events during the week.

Number 12 can be seen in the photograph below two doors down from the public house and identifiable by the glazed entrance porch:
